Flirting?

Big thanks for the US, India, Peru, Bangladesh, n France for all our current and new readers 😉

Our Question no. 31 will be right before our conclusion paragraph, for your convenience.

Dear 1Zumba friend, I hope to hear from you soon; may be a joke, or a viral, haha! 😀

Someone from our school asked me after many hesitation, what is flirting? She has just arrived from Germany, so she is learning English language, and apparently she hear that word and she wanted to know its meaning, or probably she wanted to confirm the meaning she had in her mind.

According to the dictionary: “Flirting or coquetry is a social and sometimes sexual activity involving verbal or written communication as well as body language by one person to another”, another meaning is the bird’s wings movement, but for our purpose let’s stick to the first meaning.

I explained to her the word, then another student, Debby, asked me if I had the time, to answer her but privately. I said “Sure”. I thought she was going to talk about her boyfriend, or may be a flirting situation that she didn’t like, but then, after the first student excused herself, she said it’s related to her family.

I thought Wow, I hope that her father,  brother, or step-father did not flirt with her, or something nasty happened to her. I answered: “Go on”, but she was still very undecided, the words were hardly coming out of her mouth, as if she was sneaking out of a bad situation. I repeated again, “Go on” when she looked me in the eyes, saying “it’s about my mom”.

OMG! In my mind, I felt there was something terrible coming, but I didn’t want to interrupt, I told myself, just take one step at a time, do not jump up into any conclusion.

Debby continued bitterly: “Whenever guys come to our place to see my brother, or my dad, they never flirt with me, but they did with my mom. I was in a complete surprise: “So what is your question?”

She answered: “Even when I go out with her for shopping or when she comes to school to visit, I see young guys are so much attracted to her, smiling n feeling happy when she is with us, but they do not do the same with me, why does this happen?”

Now you see that simple question Debby asked, and how many other questions are underneath it?  I needed to know if she really understood what flirting was, why, when, where, n how people express it.

Here’s a good description for flirting, which I agree with it, I said: “Flirting gives you warm, tingly butterflies and can send a jolt of electricity through your veins. When a guy you really feel attracted to is flirting with you, you can’t help feel like you’re high.”

Flirting is a precarious ritual—a delicate balance between fear and attraction that is key to helping our brains and bodies decide if we want to pursue a sexual relationship. But as a final thought, remember that it can also be done just for fun.

  1. Mmm, flirting. So much fun when we were younger. It tends to disappear in a long term relationship but I’ve found that with a bit of effort and a few ‘date nights’ without the kids, the spark can be rekindled. Nice post.

    1. Thanks Miriam for your precious comments. I always like to hear from you. I still believe in that saying: “The man as old as he feels”, coz my dad used to repeat when it came to anything related to age.
I guess what I mean is that flirting has its taste when we were younger, it has another flavor when we are adults, & it would continue to be there till our last moments! 🙂 I’m glad you like it. Thank you. 🙂
