Finding a lawyer and getting a consultation could be great, but sometimes and bc this didn’t happen to you before, you could miss asking critical questions while you are worried about your health and physical welling.
Contrary to the opinion that a police report cannot be corrected or amended, you actually can ask for correction by contacting the officer who wrote the report. In some instances, the officer does not want to change the report, and feels that he thought it was good enough, but if you did not ask for the correction, there are plenty of matters that will develop as a result.
Make sure that what was written in the report was what happened in reality. True report could be a saver. Unfortunately, people who never had an accident in their lives, tend to be unaware of many facts that should be included in that report such as names of both parties, description for the place and the road nature, the injuries, the witnesses (if any), the airbags and the seat belt, etc.
Remember that you need to know who is at fault, and if you were put at fault, you need to know exactly why. Some officers think that the traffic lights are the ones that determine who is at fault but this is not and should not be a rule. Perhaps you have a green light but you crossed the street middle partition to the other side being under the influence; in this case, it is not about the right of way, it is rather about the driver’s behavior.
