Vivi reminded us of walk and talk last week. Do you remember that? It was an activity we did some time last year, where we invited our group to have a walk together in Concord, near the downtown park there. It was an enjoyable event, but we discontinued it since we left it up to the members to decide about its frequency.

The part that we did not mention about this “Walk & Talk” technique is that it is very effective when it comes to losing weightToday we will explain how walking can give you the weight loss that you always wanted or dreamed of. There is a way for getting a good result from this routine.

Is it really true that you can lose weight by just walking?

The answer is Yes Yes Yes!

The number of calories you can burn by walking is determined by your body weight and walking pace. On average, if you walk at a pace of 4 miles per hour (a common pace) you can burn roughly 400 calories per hour.

You don’t necessarily need to go 4 miles a day.  You can have one mile only a day. You can have two miles every two days. You also can have a gradual schedule, to start with half a mile, then increase it according to your ability.

The continuation is the secret behind losing weight. You have to have the persistence in doing it. You cannot be lazy for one whole week, then all of a sudden walking every day. The results will not be the same. Added to this your body will not get used to a certain routine, which will affect your muscles and your degree of exhaustion.

You can get fatigued very fast if you do not have a solid plan for yourself. Therefore, before you start your “Walk & Talk” if your goal is to lose weight. You better put your plan ahead of time. Set a date to start. Choose your partner. Put it to work!

“For overall health, walking is a greatly beneficial exercise because almost anyone can do it and it provides the most critical cardiovascular and musculoskeletal benefits that can be derived from exercise,” says Weygand.
